Project Management Award For DHL Central Air Hub Leipzig Team

A project team from DHL and Deutsche Post was recently honoured with the "Project Excellence Award" in Wiesbaden/Germany by German Project Management Association (GPM). The team received the leading project management award for the successful implementation of the project "Central Air Hub Leipzig". The project comprised the establishment and smooth cooperation of work processes between different divisions at the new Hub in a very efficient and cost saving way.

Bryan Jamison, Executive Vice President Network Operations Europe said:" I congratulate the team for receiving the Project Excellence Award. Each team member has been working with outstanding enthusiasm and professionalism on this extensive project. This was crucial to the great success and has made the project an exemplary collaboration between the various divisions of our company. I am particularly impressed that all this was done ahead of schedule and within the budgetary limits."

Leipzig is a key hub for the DHL Express network. Constructions began in 2006 and were finalized only a year later in 2007. Before the official opening of the Central Air Hub in Leipzig in May 2008, the project team needed to ensure a smooth transition of the existing European air hub in Brussels/Belgium to Leipzig. The tasks included supervising the construction phase, the hire of staff, the transfer of staff from Brussels to Leipzig, planning of flight routes as well as scheduling arrival and departure times, and public and media information along the process.

The German Project Management Association (GPM) annually awards project management prizes to project teams that achieve great feats in project management. The project "Central Air Hub Leipzig" won due to its excellent accuracy in time and budget. Apart from a very tight schedule for planning and construction, the project was completed ahead of schedule and within the estimated budget. The project team "Pegasus" was a cooperation of employees of DHL, Deutsche Post, Deutsche Post Bauen, European Aviation Transport (EAT), and Obermeyer GmbH.

With more than 4000 members the GPM German Project Management Association is the leading association for project management in Germany. The GPM is a member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and cooperates with other associations worldwide. The "German Project Management Award" was awarded for the first time in 1997. In 2007 the name turned into "German Project Excellence Award".
